Klickitat Mall

The Klickitat Mall is a 60-foot-wide pedestrian corridor running east from Irving Park to NE 14th Avenue. It's used every day by people walking and biking, and it crosses NE 11th, 12th, and 13th Avenues along the way. Adjacent property owners maintain it, with help from neighborhood volunteers organized through the Irvington Community Association. Starting in 2026, a group of neighbors are meeting quarterly to work on improving safety, removing invasive plants and replacing them with natives.

Next Work Party

Saturday, October 24 · 9 AM–noon. Meet at NE 13th & Klickitat. We'll plant natives, pull invasives, and meet neighbors. No experience needed. Questions or RSVP: Klickitat@irvingtonpdx.com

Mall Info

The Mall's current improvements were built in the early 1970s with an urban development grant received by the Portland Development Commission (now Prosper Portland). The Mall is unimproved city right-of-way, not a city park. Questions or ideas: Klickitat@irvingtonpdx.com

Improvement Projects

Neighbors are working to improve the Mall in three ways.

  1. Safety: The crossings at NE 11th, 12th, and 13th are not clearly unmarked; cars pass quickly and its a danger to bikes and pedestrians.

  2. Community: We want the Mall to be a place to great place to walk, meet neighbors and enjoy a space without cars.

  3. Native plants: We're removing invasive plants, especially lesser celandine and bishop's weed, and replacing them with native, pollinator-supporting plants.
